The Challenge
The fishing app market was saturated with basic logbooks that offered little more than a digital notepad. NetFish came to us with a bolder vision: AI-powered real-time intelligence that could predict bite times, suggest locations, and learn from community data — all while working completely offline in remote areas with zero connectivity. The core technical challenge was building ML that ran on-device without sacrificing accuracy, and an offline architecture that synced gracefully when the user returned to range.
Our Solution
We built a React Native app with an on-device ML model (TensorFlow Lite) trained on millions of catch records, weather patterns, and tidal data. The model runs entirely on-device, delivering bite-time predictions with no internet required. We integrated weather APIs, tide services, and GPS into a single offline cache that refreshes on connectivity. The community catch log feeds the central model with each upload, creating a flywheel of improving predictions. Our offline-first architecture uses SQLite with differential sync — users get real-time updates when connected and zero interruption when offline.
