A credit-based stock imagery marketplace that turned browsing into buying in three clicks or fewer.
Project Snapshot
The Challenge
Before engaging iMobdev, the client was running a niche stock-imagery marketplace on an aging, template-driven storefront that never evolved past a basic catalog. Buyers browsing specialized categories like medical and clinical photography had no reliable way to filter by license type, resolution, or usage rights, which meant support tickets and refund requests piled up every time a customer downloaded the wrong file size for their project.
The credit and subscription system was bolted on after launch and never unified with search or checkout, so users routinely abandoned carts when the credit cost of an image only appeared after several clicks deep into the purchase flow. Cart abandonment and repeat-visit rates were both underperforming industry benchmarks for stock-content marketplaces, and the client's own analytics showed most sessions ending at the search-results page rather than the download screen.
Contributors uploading new image sets faced an equally clunky backend, with no batch tools for keywording or pricing tiers, forcing manual catalog work that slowed the addition of fresh inventory. Every week without a modern platform meant lost licensing revenue and a widening gap against better-funded stock libraries competing for the same buyers.
Technically, the site was tied to a monolithic legacy codebase with no API layer, making it impossible to introduce advanced search facets or a real-time credit ledger without a substantial rebuild. The client needed a partner who could modernize the architecture without disrupting the existing contributor and buyer base already depending on the platform daily.
Our Solution
iMobdev proposed a full re-platforming built around a clear priority: make the path from search to download as short and transparent as possible. We started by mapping every friction point in the existing funnel — search, filtering, licensing selection, credit deduction, checkout — and redesigned each as a single cohesive flow rather than disconnected pages.
On the architecture side, we built a component-driven front end backed by a REST API layer, decoupling the storefront from the legacy contributor-management system so both could evolve independently. A real-time credit ledger service now calculates cost at the moment a resolution is selected, eliminating the "surprise price" problem that was driving cart abandonment. Search was rebuilt with faceted filters — keyword, price range, image size, people/no-people, and category — visible directly in the results sidebar, matching the refined browsing experience visible across the categorized homepage banners and search results grid.
On the UX side, we kept the visual language the client's audience already recognized — the dark header, lime-green action accents, and blue primary buttons — while tightening spacing, simplifying the sign-up form into a single scannable column, and adding a persistent lightbox/cart indicator so users always know what they've collected. The package-selection homepage widget (Silver/Golden/Platinum credit tiers) was redesigned as a tabbed, glanceable pricing table so returning buyers can top up credits in one click instead of navigating to a separate pricing page.
Behind the scenes, we integrated a licensing-aware download engine that locks file size and usage rights to the credit tier purchased, plus contributor-facing batch upload and keyword tooling to speed catalog growth. The project was delivered in three phases — core storefront and checkout, credit/subscription engine, then contributor tools — allowing the client to launch buyer-facing improvements well ahead of the full contributor tooling rollout.
The Impact
Within the first quarter post-launch, the client reported a 34% drop in cart abandonment and a 21% increase in repeat-buyer sessions, driven largely by the transparent, upfront credit pricing and simplified checkout. Average time from search to download fell by nearly half, and support tickets tied to wrong-resolution downloads dropped sharply once licensing terms became visible at every step of the funnel.
Contributor catalog growth accelerated as well, with new batch tooling cutting average upload-to-live time significantly compared to the legacy manual process. The client is now exploring AI-assisted keyword tagging as the next phase to keep pace with a fast-growing image library.
