The Challenge

Restaurant chains ran daily specials — meatball subs on Monday, half-price wings on Wednesday — but that information lived on scattered flyers, in-store signage, or buried social posts that hungry customers rarely saw at the right moment. There was no single place to answer the question that actually matters at lunchtime: "what's the best deal near me, right now?"

For consumers, the pain point was discovery friction at the moment of decision. Someone standing in Little Italy at noon had no fast way to compare today's Subway deal against Burger King's or KFC's without opening five different apps or driving past storefronts hoping to spot a sign. For the restaurant brands, the cost was invisible demand — a genuinely good Monday special sitting unseen by exactly the people close enough to redeem it.

Every day without a discovery layer meant lost footfall for participating restaurants and a worse decision-making experience for users defaulting to the same one or two chains out of habit rather than genuine best-deal comparison. A directory that only worked for one city or one day of the week would fail the moment someone traveled or the promo calendar rolled over.

The build also had to stay lightweight: this was a single-purpose utility app, not a full ordering platform, so the technical bar was fast location lookup, an always-current deals feed, and zero friction between opening the app and seeing a deal.

Our Solution

We built Daily Bites around a single organizing principle: the day of the week is the primary navigation, since that's literally how the deals are structured. Opening the app surfaces "Monday Deals" (or whichever day it is) immediately, with a map pinning the nearest participating location and a scrollable list of brand deals below it — Subway, Mr. Sub, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, KFC — each shown with its logo, the specific deal copy, and exact pricing.

A settings-driven radius filter (5 / 10 / 25 / 50 km) lets users tune how far they're willing to travel, persisted locally so the app remembers their preference on every launch. We used native map pins with approximate-location callouts and one-tap "get directions" hand-off, keeping the app focused on discovery rather than trying to rebuild navigation.

For the business side, we added a lightweight "Add your business here" entry point directly in the deals list, turning the app itself into a self-serve acquisition channel for smaller restaurants that wanted deal placement without a heavy sales process. A category browser (Top Bite badges) let participating chains stand out visually against a plain list.

Given the narrow, high-frequency use case, we prioritized load speed and offline-tolerant caching of the day's deals list over feature breadth, plus a simple ad placement (AdMob) to monetize discovery traffic without disrupting the deal-browsing flow. The result is a fast, single-screen-first utility that answers one question extremely well.

The Impact

Daily Bites gave restaurant chains a always-on discovery channel tied to the exact moment a nearby customer was deciding where to eat, and gave users a single trusted source for daily specials instead of chasing flyers and social posts. Early usage patterns showed strong lunchtime and weekday-morning spikes, exactly matching the deal-refresh cadence the app was built around.

Illustrative metrics: over 60% of sessions occurred within an hour of a meal time, the 5 km radius setting was the most-used filter by a wide margin, and participating chains reported a measurable uptick in redemptions tied to app-driven visits. Looking ahead, the natural next step is push-based deal alerts tied to a user's saved favorite chains.
