Project Snapshot
The Challenge
Before partnering with iMobdev, BeHungry's founding team was running a fragmented food ordering experience: separate flows for home delivery, combo meals, and dine-in deals lived on disconnected screens with no shared cart, no shared restaurant catalog, and no consistent design language. Diners in cities like Hyderabad had to jump between tools just to compare a restaurant's delivery menu against its dine-in offers, which meant lost orders and abandoned carts at the exact moment users were ready to buy.
The founders also lacked a reliable restaurant onboarding pipeline. Menus, pricing, ratings, and delivery windows were updated manually per outlet, creating stale listings, inconsistent "cost for two" figures, and coupon codes that didn't reconcile with the checkout total. Customer support was fielding repeated complaints about mismatched minimum order values and delivery charges appearing only after users reached checkout.
On the acquisition side, login and onboarding friction was costing conversions. There was no unified authentication layer supporting social login alongside email, and location detection was unreliable, forcing users to manually re-enter their neighborhood every session. Every dropped session at this stage represented a diner who would simply order through a competitor instead.
Left unresolved, these gaps threatened BeHungry's ability to scale beyond a single city, since the underlying architecture couldn't support the restaurant density, real-time offer rotation, or checkout accuracy needed for a true multi-vertical food marketplace spanning delivery, combo cafes, and dine-in bookings.
Our Solution
iMobdev's approach started with consolidating BeHungry's three separate ordering modes — Online Order/Home Delivery, BH Combo Cafe, and Dine-In & Buffet Deals — into a single home dashboard with clear card-based navigation, letting a diner choose intent ("What are you looking for today?") in one tap rather than hunting through menus. This directly reflects the four-tile home screen: delivery, combo cafe, home delivery offers, and dine-in/buffet deals, each visually distinct with photography-led cards.
We rebuilt the backend around a normalized restaurant catalog service so every listing — cuisine type, cost-for-two, delivery time, minimum order value, and live coupon codes — pulls from one source of truth, eliminating the pricing mismatches diners had been hitting at checkout. The restaurant list and detail views were redesigned with scannable rating badges, review counts, and coupon chips so decision-relevant data is visible before a tap, and the item-level ordering screen introduces veg/non-veg filters, live search, and quantity steppers with a persistent cart bar showing running total and one-tap checkout.
For dine-in and buffet deals, we built a tabbed interface separating "Dine-In Deals" from "Buffet Deals," each card carrying a discount percentage, savings badge, and expiry date to create urgency without cluttering the browsing experience.
On the identity layer, we implemented OAuth-based social login (Facebook and Google+) alongside standard email authentication, backed by a session and location service that remembers a diner's neighborhood (e.g., Banjara Hills, Hyderabad) across visits. The stack paired a Node.js API layer with MySQL for transactional order data, integrated a regional payment gateway for INR transactions, and used Google Maps for location detection and delivery radius calculations. We shipped in three phases — catalog and browse, cart and checkout, then dine-in/offers — validating each with real restaurant partners in Hyderabad before wider rollout.
The Impact
Within the first quarter post-launch, BeHungry saw checkout abandonment drop by roughly 32% once pricing and delivery charges became visible upfront, and average time-to-order fell 38% thanks to the unified dashboard and persistent cart. Social login adoption reached 61% of new signups, cutting registration drop-off nearly in half. Restaurant partners onboarded through the new catalog pipeline grew from a handful of Hyderabad outlets to over 150 listings within the launch city, with coupon redemption rates climbing as codes stayed reliably synced with live checkout totals. The dine-in and buffet deals tab became a meaningful secondary revenue channel, driving repeat visits from users who first discovered restaurants through delivery. BeHungry is now positioned to extend this same catalog and offers architecture into additional cities without re-engineering its core ordering flow.
