The Challenge
WearTech set out to build a single companion app for an entire line of safety wearables — a "Guardian" band for kids, a "Companion" band for older adults, and a "Shield" band for working-age adults — each targeting a different age group but sharing one job: turn a wristband's sensors into something a worried parent, caregiver, or family member could actually act on. Before iMobdev, WearTech had hardware partners and a device lineup, but no software layer tying vitals, location, and alerts together into one coherent experience.
The pain points were concrete. Families needed to track multiple people at once — a grandmother, a toddler, a teenager — from a single account, each with their own device, geo-fence rules, and vital-sign thresholds, without the interface turning into a cluttered dashboard. The app also had to translate raw sensor data into decisions: a heart-rate spike or an unexpected geo-fence exit needed to become an immediate, understandable alert, not a buried data point in a chart. And because the target users were often anxious in the moment — a missing child, a fallen parent — the experience had to stay legible under stress, not just look good in a still screenshot.
Every month without a working app was a month WearTech's hardware sat unsupported, unable to prove the "detect, predict, protect" promise printed on the box. Retail and distribution partners needed a live app to evaluate before committing shelf space to the devices.
Technically, the team also had to support multiple device tiers with different sensor sets (heart rate, SpO2, ambient temperature, water-body proximity, step count) inside one shared app shell, and needed the interface to visually adapt per family member without turning into five different apps.
Our Solution
iMobdev approached WearTech as one identity system wrapped around several very different caregiving relationships. Whether a user is monitoring a toddler, a parent, or themselves, the app needed to feel like a single trusted product, not a generic fleet-tracking tool.
On the architecture side, we built native iOS and Android apps that pair with each wearable over Bluetooth Low Energy and sync vitals and location through a Node.js and Express backend, with MongoDB storing time-series health data and a geo-fencing service evaluating location events against each family member's active zones in near real time. Push notifications fire the moment a geo-fence is breached or a vital crosses its configured threshold, so alerts reach a caregiver's phone directly, not just an in-app inbox.
On the UX side, we built a horizontally scrollable family carousel as the home anchor, so switching between monitored people is a single tap, and gave each profile a user-selected accent color that carries through their entire dashboard — heart monitor, activity rings, water-body alerts, SpO2, and ambient temperature — so the interface itself signals whose data you're looking at without needing a label on every card. The glowing cyan-to-violet shield mark anchors every header as a consistent trust signal across all three device tiers.
For the data layer, each device tier reports through a shared telemetry contract so new sensor types can be added without reworking the core app, and geo-fences support flexible radius, time-window, and named-location rules ("Josh's School," "Uncle Kevin's place") that map directly onto how families actually think about safe zones. Historical vitals are chartable by hour, day, week, month, or all-time so caregivers can spot trends, not just react to single readings.
Delivery was phased around device availability: the Guardian (child) tier and its geo-fencing shipped first, the shared vitals dashboard and historical charting followed, and the final phase extended the same shell to the Companion and Shield tiers with age-appropriate defaults for each.
The Impact
WearTech launched with a single app that credibly supports its entire hardware line, giving distribution partners a real product to evaluate alongside the devices themselves. Families can now monitor a grandparent, a child, and themselves from one account, with color-coded profiles and instant alerts replacing what used to be separate, disconnected check-ins.
The geo-fencing and vital-threshold alerts turned passive sensor data into active peace of mind, directly delivering on WearTech's "detect, predict, protect" promise. iMobdev continues to work with WearTech as new sensor types and device tiers are added to the lineup.
