The Challenge
Voxforge Media Labs approached iMobdev with a problem familiar to every growing podcast network: producing a single episode in one language was easy, but reaching a global audience meant re-recording, re-editing, and re-mixing that same episode in five or six more languages. Studio time, voice talent booking, and manual dubbing sessions meant a single episode could take three to four weeks to localize, and the cost scaled linearly with every new market the network wanted to enter.
The founding team had already validated demand — international listeners were requesting translated feeds directly on social media — but had no way to fulfill it without hiring a full production team in every target language. They needed a mobile-first tool that could clone a host's voice with a short recorded sample, generate natural-sounding dubs in dozens of languages, and preserve the original episode's pacing, tone, and background music so the localized version still felt authored, not automated.
Existing dubbing services were either desktop-only, priced for enterprise studios, or produced robotic-sounding output that listeners could immediately tell was synthetic. Voxforge wanted something creators could use from a phone between recording sessions — upload a script, pick a target language, and get a broadcast-ready track back the same day.
Success meant more than technical accuracy. The output had to be good enough that a listener switching from the English feed to the Spanish or Japanese feed wouldn't notice a drop in production quality, and the workflow had to be simple enough that a solo podcaster with no audio engineering background could use it confidently.
Our Solution
iMobdev built Voxforge as a native mobile app centered on three flows: voice cloning, dubbing, and project management. The onboarding flow guides new users through a guided voice-capture session — reading a short calibration passage aloud while a live waveform visualizer confirms recording quality in real time — so every cloned voice starts from clean, sufficient training audio rather than noisy or too-short samples.
On the AI side, we combined OpenAI's Whisper for transcript alignment and forced timing, a custom voice-cloning pipeline built on open-source diffusion-based TTS models for generating the target-language audio in the user's own cloned voice, and the ElevenLabs API as a secondary voice engine for languages and accents where our fine-tuned models needed a quality boost. A lightweight audio-mixing layer, built in-house, re-synchronizes the generated dialogue against the original background music and sound design so the final export keeps the episode's original texture instead of sounding like a flat voiceover pasted on top.
The dubbing screen itself was designed to feel like a lightweight editing suite rather than a form: the original script sits above a language picker and voice selector, with toggles for preserving background music and enforcing lip-sync-style timing for video podcasts. Once a user taps Generate Dub, the job moves into a processing queue visible from a dedicated Projects tab, so creators can queue up several languages at once and check back rather than wait on a spinner.
Export was built for real production workflows: finished dubs can be downloaded as MP3 for quick distribution or WAV for further mastering, with waveform-accurate scrubbing so editors can spot-check specific moments before publishing. The result is a tool a single-person podcast operation can use to go from one language to ten without adding headcount.
The Impact
Since launch, Voxforge has become the primary localization tool for the network's flagship shows, cutting average turnaround for a new-language episode from roughly three weeks to under six hours of processing time. Creators on the platform have shipped dubbed catalogs in Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Portuguese without booking a single external voice actor, and early listener feedback has consistently flagged the dubbed tracks as indistinguishable from professionally produced ones.
iMobdev continues to partner with Voxforge on expanding language coverage and refining voice-cloning fidelity for accented and multilingual hosts, with real-time dubbing for live recordings next on the roadmap.
