The Challenge

SURE approached iMobdev with a simple premise that home cooks were drowning in scattered recipes — screenshots, bookmarked blog posts, printed cards — with no single place to browse, save, and actually plan a week of meals around them. Before development began, the idea lived in a rough wireframe and a name: a play on "sure, I'll cook that tonight."

The pain points were concrete. There was no structured way to browse recipes by type, calories, or prep time, so users defaulted to endless scrolling. There was no bridge between finding a recipe and acting on it — nothing to add a dish to a specific day or meal slot. And the founding team wanted every recipe screen to carry consistent nutritional and difficulty data, which meant the content model had to be far more structured than a typical blog-style recipe app.

Without a working app, SURE had no way to validate whether people would actually plan meals around saved recipes versus just browsing passively — a distinction that determined whether the business was a content app or a genuine daily-use utility. Every month of delay was a month of losing early adopters to established recipe platforms that already had this workflow figured out.

Technically, the team wanted a lightweight native build that felt instant and photo-forward, since food imagery was the entire hook, without the overhead of a heavier cross-platform rendering stack for the initial launch.

Our Solution

iMobdev framed SURE around one core loop: discover a recipe, understand it at a glance, and place it directly onto a plan. Every screen was designed to shorten the distance between those three steps.

We built SURE as a native iOS app so recipe photography would render crisply and scrolling would stay smooth even with large image-heavy feeds. A structured recipe model — attaching food type, difficulty rating, active cooking time, and per-serving nutrition to every entry — gave the content team a consistent format to publish against, and gave users a filter system that actually meant something (filtering by food type, calorie ceiling, and total duration).

On the UX side, we kept recipe cards visually dominant, with title and category overlaid directly on the food photography, and gave each recipe detail screen three focused tabs — Description, Specification, Steps — so a user could jump straight to what they needed instead of scrolling past information they didn't.

For the planning layer, we built "My Planer," a calendar-driven view where any recipe can be assigned to Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, or Dinner on a specific date, turning a saved recipe into an actual commitment rather than a bookmark. A slide-out menu ties recipe browsing, profile, planning, and account settings together in one lightweight navigation model.

Delivery was scoped as a single focused release: core recipe browsing and filtering first, the planner and account layer second, both shipped together as one polished v1 rather than a staged rollout, since the founding team wanted a complete first impression for early App Store reviewers.

The Impact

SURE launched with a complete discover-to-plan loop that most early-stage recipe apps lack: browse a curated, photo-forward feed, filter by real criteria, and drop any recipe onto a calendar day and meal slot in a few taps. The three-tab recipe detail view gave users the exact information they needed — difficulty, timing, nutrition, ingredients, steps — without forcing them through a long scroll.

Early users adopted the meal planner as a genuine weekly-routine tool rather than a novelty, validating the founding thesis that recipe discovery and meal planning belonged in the same app. iMobdev continues to work with SURE on expanding its recipe catalog and social sharing features.
