The Challenge

An education-focused startup approached iMobdev with a problem every student recognizes: knowing you need to study is not the same as knowing what to study, when. Before iMobdev, the founders had a name, a rough idea of a "revision calendar," and a stack of notes about how students actually plan around exams — but no working app.

The pain points were specific. Students had no automatic way to turn a list of subjects and exam dates into a day-by-day plan, so revision time defaulted to whatever felt most urgent that day rather than what actually needed the most attention. There was no way to weight subjects by priority or difficulty, so a student's limited free hours weren't necessarily going where they'd help most. And with study time scattered across mornings, evenings, and weekends, there was no simple way to log actual availability and have a plan adjust around it.

Every week without a working planner meant more students defaulting back to cramming, and a harder pitch to the schools and parents the startup needed on board to validate the product. The founders needed a real app in students' hands to prove the "auto-generated plan" concept actually worked before they could raise their next round.

Technically, the constraint was scope: a single small team, a tight runway, and a need to ship something a teenager could set up in minutes without a tutorial.

Our Solution

iMobdev's approach was to build the entire app around one core promise: enter your subjects, priorities, and availability once, and let Study M8 generate the plan. Every screen exists to feed that engine or to surface what it produces.

We built native iOS and Android apps with a lightweight backend that stores each student's subjects, exam dates, priority weightings, and available study windows, then runs a scheduling engine that allocates time blocks across subjects automatically. A Study Planner home screen organizes the six core actions — My Plan, Subject, Priorities, Availability, Statistics, and Hints & Tips — as a single glanceable grid, so students always know where to go next.

On the UX side, we leaned into a hand-drawn, notebook-and-graph-paper visual language deliberately, since it reads as approachable and low-pressure rather than corporate — a deliberate contrast to how stressful exam prep already feels. Subjects get their own color tags (red, green, blue, purple) chosen by the student, which carry through the calendar and daily plan so a subject is recognizable at a glance without reading its label.

For the planning engine itself, Add Subject captures priority as a simple percentage slider alongside exam dates, and My Priorities lets students rebalance every subject's weighting in one screen whenever their focus shifts. My Plan then renders Current Day, Next Month, and Plan Detail views from that same underlying schedule, with a simple checkbox to mark each block "Done" as the day progresses.

Delivery was phased: subject and priority setup shipped first, the auto-generated daily plan followed once the scheduling engine was validated, and statistics and sharing features rounded out the release once real students were using the app to prep for actual exams.

The Impact

Study M8 gave students a study plan they didn't have to build themselves — enter subjects and priorities once, and the app handles the rest, adjusting as exam dates and availability change. The founders used the working app to run real trials with students ahead of exam season, replacing a pitch deck with actual usage data on time-on-task and plan completion.

Early users reported spending less time deciding what to study and more time actually studying it, with the color-coded daily plan making it easy to stay on track. iMobdev continues to support Study M8 as the team expands the scheduling engine and adds new subject types.

Study M8 took the guesswork out of revision. Our students stopped asking 'what should I study today' and just opened the app.
