The Challenge
SRx Glasses sells directly to independent opticians and optical retailers, who in turn need to place precise, error-prone-free lens orders on behalf of their patients — frame, tint, lens type, prescription, and patient details, all captured correctly the first time. Before iMobdev, that ordering process ran through phone calls, faxed prescriptions, and email attachments, a workflow that was slow for opticians and a frequent source of costly remake errors for SRx Glasses' lab.
The pain points were concrete and expensive. Opticians needed a way to place a complete order — frame, tint, lens type, and patient prescription — without switching between a phone call and a paper form. The lab needed every order to arrive with consistent, structured data instead of handwritten notes that had to be re-keyed manually before production could start. And because prescription accuracy directly affects patient outcomes, the app had to make it easy to attach a photo of the patient and the optometry RX document to every order as a verification safeguard.
Every order placed the old way carried a real cost: remakes from transcription errors, slower turnaround for patients waiting on new glasses, and hours of manual re-entry for SRx Glasses' internal team. Independent opticians — SRx Glasses' actual customers — needed a faster, more reliable way to order before they'd consider switching labs.
Technically, the ordering flow also had to support a growing frame catalog (50+ frames and counting), multiple tint and lens-type combinations, and company-level account details, all inside a single guided flow simple enough for a busy optician to complete between patients.
Our Solution
iMobdev approached SRx Glasses as a guided, step-by-step B2B ordering tool rather than a generic form — the goal was to make a complex order (frame, tint, lens, prescription, patient, photos) feel like a simple three-step checklist.
On the architecture side, we built native iOS and Android apps backed by a Node.js and Express API with a PostgreSQL database modeling frames, tints, lens types, and orders as structured, queryable records, plus cloud storage for patient photos and RX document uploads attached to each order. Every order created in the app arrives at the lab fully structured, eliminating the manual re-keying that used to introduce errors.
On the UX side, the New Order flow is broken into three clearly numbered steps — Frame, Patient, Submit — with progress dots that stay visible throughout, so an optician always knows exactly where they are. Frame selection uses a swipeable card browser across the full catalog with tint options (Clear, Smoke, Polarised, SmartVue) presented as simple selectable chips, and the final step captures lens type, a patient photo, and the optometry RX document before submission. The navy-and-gold brand identity carries through every header and primary action button, giving the app a professional, clinical feel appropriate for a healthcare-adjacent ordering tool.
For the data layer, every submitted order generates a full Order Detail record — frame, tint, lens type, patient contact and notes, the referring company's contact details, and both photos — so it can be reviewed, shared, or deleted from Order History without a phone call back to the lab. Company details captured once in Settings auto-populate every future order. Delivery was phased: the core three-step ordering flow shipped first, with Order History, search, and the detailed order record following once opticians were placing orders daily.
The Impact
SRx Glasses replaced a phone-and-fax ordering process with a guided mobile flow that captures every order correctly the first time — frame, tint, lens type, prescription photo, and patient details, submitted in minutes instead of a multi-step phone call. The structured data reaching the lab directly reduced the remakes and re-entry that used to eat into turnaround time.
Opticians now have a searchable order history and a detailed record for every past order, giving them confidence and a paper trail without paper. iMobdev continues to support SRx Glasses as its frame catalog and lab network grow.
