The Challenge
Mon-Ji came to iMobdev with a lovable idea for a young audience: an animated jungle monkey that guides kids through a playful adventure world. Beyond the character art and a jungle setting, there was no functioning game, no account system to save a child's progress, and no gameplay loop connecting the mascot to any kind of reward or goal.
The pain points were specific to building for a young audience. There was no persistent progress system, so a child's session would reset every time the app closed, with nothing to bring them back. There was no simple sign-in path that worked for parents setting up the app on a shared family device without a lengthy account creation process. And navigation needed to be operable by small hands with no reading required — icons and taps, not menus and text.
Every week without a real build meant Mon-Ji couldn't validate whether the mascot and jungle setting actually held a child's attention, which was the entire premise investors and parents needed to see proven before committing to more content.
Technically, the game also had to load quickly on hand-me-down family tablets and older phones, which meant keeping animations and asset sizes tightly controlled without losing the character's charm.
Our Solution
iMobdev's approach was to build Mon-Ji around one animated mascot moving through a single jungle setting, with every screen — title, login, home, and gameplay — reinforcing the same character and world rather than introducing new visual language at each step.
On the architecture side, we built the game in Unity with C#, backed by Firebase for account and progress storage, so a child's collected bananas and unlocked customizations sync reliably across sessions and devices. Facebook login was added alongside standard email signup so parents have a fast path to get a profile running on a shared device.
On the UX side, every core action is a large, icon-first button: a oversized Play button, chunky sound, info, and color-customization icons on the home screen, and simple pause and home controls during gameplay, all sized and spaced for a young child's motor control rather than an adult's precision tapping.
For the gameplay layer, the monkey mascot moves through a jungle path collecting bananas as its core currency and reward loop, while encountering jungle animals like tigers along the way — introducing simple recognition and cause-and-effect play rather than punishing failure states. Delivery was phased: the title screen and mascot animation set shipped first to validate the character's appeal, login and the home hub followed, and the jungle gameplay loop with banana collection was layered in and tuned last.
The Impact
Mon-Ji launched with a coherent jungle world built around one recognizable mascot, a login path simple enough for parents to set up in seconds, and a core banana-collecting loop that gives young players an immediate, understandable goal. The icon-first navigation meant kids could move between the home hub and gameplay without needing to read a single word.
The Firebase-backed progress system gave Mon-Ji a foundation to keep building on — new jungle animals, new customization unlocks, and new mini-goals — without touching the core experience. iMobdev continues to support Mon-Ji as it expands the jungle adventure with new characters and content.
